HALLING GARDENING SOCIETY

Presents

THE 43rd FLOWER AND VEGETABLE SHOW

to be held on SUNDAY 29th MARCH 2026,  3.00 pm. - 5.00 pm at JUBILEE HALL, Browndens Road, Upper Halling ME2 1JE

Exhibits to be staged on the day between the hours: 10.00 am. - 12.00 noon.

Judging to start at 1.00 pm.  Auction - 4.30 pm.   Raffle - 4.45 pm.

Each Exhibit - 20p to enter,  OAP 10p and Children Free

Admission to view show - 50p

Children and Members Free

The best exhibit in Sections A and B from a new exhibitor in the Spring and  Autumn shows will be awarded the New Exhibitor’s Cup

Traditional Welsh Bara Brith tea loaf

400g mixed fruit  (e.g. sultanas, raisins, currants)

300ml strong hot black tea

1 teaspoon mixed spice

250g self-raising flour                          

100g dark brown muscovado sugar   

1 x free range egg, beaten

Honey to glaze

1. Put dried fruit in bowl, pour over hot tea, mix in sugar, stir well to dissolve and leave to soak for at least 6 hours or overnight

2. Next day, sift flour and spice into the soaked fruit (do not drain the tea), stir in egg and blend well 

3. Preheat oven to 180c/gas 4.  Line a 900g loaf tin with baking paper and pour in the mixture

4. Bake for approx. 1 hour until cake has risen and cooked through.  Leave to cool on a rack, drizzling a little honey over the surface of the warm loaf for a glazed topping. 

5. Wrap and store for 2 days before eating.  Served sliced with butter.
